Hello! I’m Jessie and I run the Little Seeds Nature Daycare in Thunder Bay. I love being with kids of all ages, especially the little’s. I have 20+ years experience working with children in many different volunteer programs as well as with my own children and my past home daycare. (Even as a teenager I worked at a daycare and later as a live in nanny).
When kids are inspired to love learning, anything and everything becomes a learning opportunity! I love building relationships with kids and walking alongside them as they change and grow through their different stages. Although I have my own children (ages 19, 18, 16 & 12), every child and stage is different and the learning never stops!
Our home is situated in a lovely neighborhood in the Grandview area near McVicar Creek and is close to forests, trails and many parks. Our family loves to be outside to camp, ski, bike, swim, snowshoe, relax, explore and play in any type of weather. We know that being in nature fills us up and reduces stress and anxiety that life can sometimes throw at us. This is why at Little Seeds Nature daycare we want to be outside as much as possible and use nature for all of our learning adventures!

We are inspired by the Forest Schools in Ontario as well as the Montessori method and many mentors and authors who love children and see their development as a special opportunity to be included in. We believe that every child is unique, and should be given the time and space to explore the parts of the world they are drawn to. We try to provide this space and time to the children both in our classroom and out doors during our day together.
We love books and stories and are big believers that story is a great way to learn for both adults and kids. That is why we choose books that the children can engage with and love to be invited into. We read everyday!
We also use music everyday to lift us up, have some fun and let our wiggles out. It’s a great way to remember poems and information that we may be exploring in our Monthly Themes or our Practical Skills.
Our curriculum is a mix of Montessori-inspired, self-guided, learning activities promoting practical skills, fine and gross motor skills, pre-math skills, and creating familiarity with letters and sounds. We us the Ontario Forest School curriculum ideas for our time outdoors, using tools and themes to explore and enjoy as we learn about our world.
We can learn a lot from a Blue Jay feather, a pinecone or a stick with lichens and moss growing on its side. We are outside learning to observe and taking time to notice details, asking questions and working together to find the answers. Kids are natural naturalists if given the opportunity!

Little Seeds Nature Daycare is situated in a lovely neighbourhood in the Grandview area near McVicar Creek and is close to forests, trails and many parks. We work to keep a peaceful atmosphere in our home and classroom. We are clean and tidy without being afraid to make a mess! We have a bright classroom area on the main floor inside the main entrance as well as direct access to the bathroom, kitchen, dining room and diaper change area. We have space to spread out on the floor & carpet with toys and books as well as tables to sit at for crafts and games. We rotate the toys to keep it interesting and have plants to water, lots of great books to read and beautiful artwork to look and be inspired by.
Outdoors we have gardens, a backyard Rabbitry, a special kids area with logs for sitting during outside story times as well as lots of room to run and play. Seasonally we use water tables, bring out the mud kitchen kit, take our art projects outside or build in the snow. There is plenty of nearby green space to play, run, hike and explore.
